Maria Wilson!

Thank you to everyone who participated!  It was so much fun to hear of your progress and your experiences!  I hope that you will continue to add healthy foods to your daily menus!  And keep your eyes open because there will definitely be more contests!

Green Smoothie Contest/Challenge!!!

I’m thinking it’s time for a contest!  Yay!  I love giving gifts to people!  It is such a fun part of my job!  I mean, who doesn’t love getting a gift!  This one is really two gifts wrapped up into one.  ”How can that be?” you ask.

Well, the first gift will be in the challenge itself!  Competing in this challenge will give you many healthful benefits.  Green smoothies are an incredibly nutritious way to get fruits and veggies into your day.  They reduce sugar cravings & give you tons of energy.  Plus, they are delicious once you learn how to make them!  I find it’s best to have one for breakfast.  Use it as a meal replacement if you can.

So, in order to compete, you will first need to subscribe to my blog (upper right-hand corner of this page) & like me on facebook.  (If you already have, then cool!  Move on to step #2).  Then you will need to commit to try a green smoothie once/day for 5 days.  Once you have done that, simply leave a comment here and let me know your experience.  The contest will begin August 18th and end on August 24th.  All submissions must be in by August 24th.  Of course, this is a by faith contest, but I don’t think any of my readers will screw with karma :)

What will you win???!!!

A $20 gift card from

to do with what you will!

Here are some recipes to get you started:

1 cup water, 1 banana, 1/2 cup mango, 1/2 cup strawberries, 1 cup spinach, ice

1 cup water, 1 banana, 1/2 cup strawberries, 1/2 cup blueberries, 1 cup swiss chard, ice

1 cup water, 1 banana, 1/2 cup mango, 1/2 cup pineapple, 3 tbs shredded coconut, 1 cup spinach, ice

1 cup water, 1 pear, 1 cup raspberries, 1/2 cup kale

Play around with the ingredients.  There’s no right or wrong way.  You can use fresh or frozen fruits.  Some people add yogurt, milk, or almond milk.  (I don’t suggest soy in any form because of phytoestrogens).  Some people even use frozen broccoli.  (If you have hypothyroidism, I suggest you use swiss chard or beet greens instead of spinach, kale, or broccoli because those are goitrogenic when not cooked.  However, listen to your body.  I can now tolerate spinach quite well).

So, what are you waiting for?  Get to the store and get stocked up!  And, don’t save this one to yourself.  Pass it on to your friends and family!  Let’s start a healthy revolution here!  I can’t do it all alone, you know!

Much love & many blessings,

Weekly Challenge #17 – Do What You <3

So, let me ask you a question.  Do you do the things that you love to do?  Do you even know what you love to do?  How long has it been since you felt excitement in your heart and fed by your passions?  Notice I used the word “fed”.  Yes, our passions feed us in ways that food cannot.  In fact, I would venture to say that many of us stuff our passions and then stuff ourselves with food to numb the pain denying ourselves causes us.

When you are living in your passion, a strange thing happens.  Food loses its control!  You actually want to exercise so that you can be the best at what you love!  Being fed by our passions brings health and wellness!

This week I got to visit Greenfield Village.  Henry Ford, a man who lived in his passions, decided that he would build a village based on people who inspired him.  With his fortunes, he situated Edison’s laboratory and the Wright brother’s homes inside this village in Detroit.

This is a very inspirational place, to say the least!  But, for me, learning more about the Wright brothers was definitely the highlight.  Here were two brothers with less than a high school education, who decided they wanted to defy the current physical understandings of the universe!  What made them think they could do it?  Who the heck were they?  Well, they were so confident in themselves that they were willing to risk life and limb!

After years of tinkering, calculating, dreaming, and living in their passions, they finally had success in December 1903.  After a flip of a coin, Orville got to test out their flying machine first.  And, for 12 whole seconds he did what no other man had ever done.  Can you imagine what that would feel like?  What he thought?  What an amazing 12 seconds!

Me on the Wright brother's back porch wondering what they thought of when they stood in the same place!

Wilbur and Orvill had many obstacles to overcome.  What’s stopping you?  Fear?

I’m trying to practice what I preach!  Today, I played a gig on a rooftop!  Who gets to do that?  U2?  The Beatles?  I couldn’t miss out on that kind of opportunity!  Here’s the deal – I’m terrified of heights!!!!  And, to get up there, you had to climb up a very tall, very wobbly ladder.  Then I had to get back down.  But, HELLO!  How cool?!  I absolutely had to do it!  Fear of heights is not a fear I’ve been able to beat in the past.  But, you know what?  Today I did!  And, it was awesome!

I need to let you in on a secret here – We need you!!!  We need you to be yourself!!!!  What is the world missiing out on because you are not living out your passions?  What are YOU missing out on?

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.”

Now go live your adventure!!!

Much love & many blessings,

Weekly Challenge #16 – Stop Making Excuses

No matter how you eat, if you are not moving daily, you are not going to be in good physical health.  And, contrary to how it feels when you begin working out, exercise is FUN!  Whatever type of exercise you choose to do, you should know that you have to give it at least 2 weeks before you begin to love it.  The first 4-5 times probably won’t be fun.  The first few times will be all about getting your cardiovascular system to fall in line and not hate you for what you are putting it through!  lol!  But, once you get used to routine, believe it or not, you will have fun!  Yes, you may be sore.  But, that’s normal!  And, you will get used to that as well!

Remember as kids how we used to ride our bikes all over the neighborhood?  Jump rope for an hour straight?  Roller skate all night?  Exercise was fun then!  So what type of exercise do you know you would love?  Dance?  Run?  Ride your bike?  Walk?  Swim?

What is STOPPING you????

(Let me let you in on a few secrets…)

No one will be looking at you.  If anything, they will see you as an inspiration!

The best time to work out is first thing in the morning.  Put your brain on autopilot and GO!

Tell yourself that your goal is to get out of the door.  Getting out of the door is 95% of the fight.

You can’t afford it?  Being sick costs WAY more than a gym membership/trainer.

You can do WAY more than you give yourself credit for.

If you have an injury, you can still find an exercise that works for you.

The benefits of exercise are amazing.   (Check out this article)

So, stop making excuses!  Get out there and get active!

Much love & many blessings,
